Due to advanced age and an unsound mind I no longer do mite tests on a 300 bee sample as I have lost more colonies from robbing frenzies than I have due to mite damage. Instead I pam spray the sticky boards then do a OAV treatment then take a look at the board the next morning. I could then count the mites and estimate the colony size by the ammout of bees on the frames and get an idea of the infestation as a percentage but generally do not bother, if the mite drop is high I just continue to treat every 3 to 4 days until very few mites fall.
