I know that you have chosen not to use II. Can you explain your reasoning?
I am performing my selective breeding program in full transparency as an
experiment to see whether Joe Queen producer could develop and/or maintain
mite-resistant stock without the need for brood dissection, II, tedious
bloodline tracking, etc.
My drones for each current year all come from the genetics of the queens
from which I grafted the previous year, so what would be the advantage of
II?
I've yet to identify a queen whose progeny all exhibit mite resistant
colonies, so there's no queen or drone yet to choose for II.
If I do identify such a queen, I will certainly make her drones available
for II.
It's so tantalizing to find colonies that are entirely mite-proof. And so
frustrating that so far, they are not passing that trait onto their
daughters.
