Not sure if that is a fair summary/assessment of what the paper is
about or the aim of the original research question.
But even in the worst case scenario that it confirms a "well known
truth", one could say that confirming anecdotal knowledge or
replicating previous research has value in the scientific process.
After all at some point it was also a well known truth that a king
presides over a hive of slaves or that varroa suck hemolymph. Some
beekeepers even know that their small cell foundation solves the
varroa problem.
