What is true and what is false?
We turn to science not for the answer to the question, but for assistance in trying to live with the knowledge that we may never be able to definitively answer the question.
Science's attempts at "answering" are inherently asymptotic - the process strives to get ever-closer to "truth", but the fact that it repeatedly makes more asymptotic passes at the question shows that we are merely "close" on most questions, not done.
When the math and the experimental data match up to several decimal places, then we are waiting for development of shaper tools that can measure more accurately, as the next several decimal places might prove interesting, disturbing, or scary.
In the observational soft sciences like biology, most of the current work is being done deep down in the chemistry, as is the work in the "behavioral" sciences.
The arts exist because some folks can't cope with the realization that we may never be able to definitively answer the question, so they make stuff up to fill the gaps.
This is harmless fun, for the most part.
