When I was at Gormanston Summer School in 2006, Micheal MacGiollaCoda put a vile of queen pheromone on the end of a fishing pole and I think he knew where the congregation might be and sure enough the buzzing started followed by dark dots in the sky. It was a very open area. I will never forget this.
Where I live now, I have never caught a swarm. I have been here 4 years. I have done google earth and cannot see any hives within 2 miles. Across the street to the east is 800+ acres of forest and wetlands. I would have hoped that there were feral bees about, but no. I have not had any of my own swarms cast, so I'm not even populating the forest!
