I am inferring based on my experience of using candy boards and people who inspect hives in winter to check on stores because they are worried.

Each red circle in this chart were very minor checks. I recently shared the Nov 8 event of cracking hive open from the bottom by 1" at 0C for less than 5 minutes. The cluster looked calm.  The picture of the cluster attached is from Oct 29. The bees looked calm and not agitated at all when I added a sensor on the back edge. But the T chart tells a different picture, clear energy step up for a couple of days.
