An interesting paper in that it discusses how it might be possible that drones can actually digest starch, should they need to, because they may ingest amylase along with honey. That brings up the possibility that foragers engage in the pre-digestion of starch for the benefit of drones, and that opens the possibility that the premise of study may never actually occur in nature. I took away that it's possible that bees evolved  to make amylase based on their need to digest whatever part of pollen contains starch.
