How many use padgening to equalize?
I searched for the definition online and have to make one up. Maybe someone has a better definition.
Padgening -- exchanging two hives so one loses flying bees to the other generally done to equalize the two colonies.
For me it was a great solution to deal with excessively strong or excessively weak hives and a time saver.
With a forklift we often exchanged entire pallets but other times just exchanged two hives that had become unbalanced with the rest of the yard.
Sometimes we just moved an overly strong mean hive back in the yard to lose bees so we could work on it in comfort.
Often as not, weakness or excessive strength can be due to position in the yard and other factors unrelated to colony or queen quality. In rows the end hives tend to collect bees.
