An interesting point; many consider them better alternatives than 
synthetics not made in imitation of something natural.

There are some techniques that reduce mite growth - like drone trapping 
and brood breaks - but they have consequences and are not 100% effective 
on their own.  I suspect it will not be too long before a technique is 
developed to keep or delay Foundress mites in the dispersal phase out of 
Honey bee brood cells.  Maybe something like that could work with 
Tropilaelaps too.
