Someone was asking for some of my data points. I created a "simple" X-Y Plot for them.
It clearly shows that most of the cluster contraction occurs in the vertical direction vs horizontally towards the warm center. Rate of Temperature change across slatted rack (Above vs Below) is constant (average) but with higher variability.
The slatted rack adds a 7-10C lower buffer on the temperature just below the slatted rack and the temperature at the center of the bottom board is 25 to 10C degrees warmer than the outside temperature.
What does that mean? It means that the bees have access to more stores horizontally and vertically downwards. I'll do the same plot for my double deep. It would likely be similar for a very strong colony. In my case my fall population was average.
