It seems to me that models are the cause of more bad decisions than
anything except maybe the precautionary principle.

Somehow we think that some arbitrary algorithms are better than a SWAG
based on our own observations and simple reasoning and slavishly follow
disproven models down verifiably suboptimal paths or even into destructive
behaviours that obviously run counter to reason.
