I recently saw a photo of a worker bee with an egg in its mandibles. I wrote to the person who had taken the photo and asked about it. He said

For a creature that use wax from its body to build a home and collect nectar for winter, the concept of moving an egg does not seem far fetched.

The idea of shooting a hive full of smoke, and observing a bee carrying a tiny egg in its mouth with a face that points downward, using eye that have trouble with Larva, that seems to be quite the stretch.
