I found this in a translation by Samuel Wagner of Dzierzon's book:

> What causes a total cessation of a queen's fertility? The queen's fertility decreases with advancing age. She lays more and more sparingly, and no longer deposits her eggs in close and regular order in the cells, but in a scattering, irregular manner. Finally, when the contents of her spermatheca are exhausted, brooding either ceases entirely, or only drones make their appearance. I reserve my remarks on this interesting condition of matters for a future occasion.
