In case it was not clear, I meant: see NO reason to think that it is not sound advice based upon empirical data (as opposed to theoretical). My typing has been sloppy as of late. Rush, rush, you know. I thought of phrasing that so it didn't include a double negative. "If I had more time, the letter would have been shorter" the saying goes. The short version would be

That's sound advice based upon empirical data (as opposed to theory). 

Beekeepers in the northern regions have been tinkering with winter protection for 150 years. The bottom line is that most beekeepers that have the means, move their bees south in winter. Up here, it's a lottery. Some years all the bees make it. A couple of years back, I lost 80% of the colonies before December, as did many others in the region.
