As I tried to say, ABBY Finereader does exactly this, and it will also OCR
an entire directory of image pdfs into full-text searchable, so the figures
stay with the text.
It stumbles a bit on equations, but you likely don't run into too many in
bee-related stuff.
For equations, being math-impaired is also a thing of the past - a buddy of
mine recently impressed the heck out of me with a phone app called
"photomath" - point your cellphone camera at an equation, even a handwritten
one, and the damn thing solves the equation, and shows its work,
step-by-step. It's a little scary. I have no idea what the backend is, but
it is very impressive.
I have no interest in the company, I am just a happy user.
