We must remember is that one study or one observation does not become absolute proof of anything and opinion is just that -- opinion -- and that not all opinions are equal.
Also, consensus is just a convergence of opinions and may be the result of thinking inside a box, groupthink, or subjectivity. History is replete with examples of consensuses that were entirely and even dangerously wrong and if I had to guess, I'd say most of the consensuses currently in vogue are partly or completely unsupported by evidence.
If we seek the truth, we have to sort though and reconcile all the information available. Even then we can only increase confidence a probable answer, and there may be a set or sets of answers.
Just because evidence appears contradictory, down not mean any of is invalid or 'wrong'. It only means it is interesting and 'more research (money) is needed'.
