Clear minded studies show that habitat loss and chemical pollution (including insecticides) are the chief factors. Warming may be bad for some, better for others. Insects can move to warmer or cooler habitats -- if they can find them.
For my part, I have a 4 acre woodlot which receives no management whatever. It's what I do to contribute. Fortunately, there are similar woodlots and abandoned pastures adjacent, so there are hundreds of contiguous acres of benign neglect.
