I want to move a hive about 30 feet. Most advice is 3 feet or 3 miles but
differs for short moves. Generally they are to close up the hive for up to
3 days and move them in that period, then put a branch or other impediment
in front of the hive to make them reorient.
Dave Cushman's site has one I am interested in trying, which is on a good
flying day, if the hive is fairly independent and no hives are in the
original location, you can move the hive in up to 10 foot increments with
2-3 hour pauses since the disoriented bees will fly to the nearest hive
which will be the hive that is moved. Since there are no hives along the
route- they are all at the final destination- it appears it might work and
could be done in a day or two.
The total distance is about 30 feet. I intend to put the hive on a cart and
move the cart to the new location in three or four moves.
Comments appreciated.
First time I have ever done this so look forward to a new experience.
