I asked a friend of mine who is a teacher of Latin and Ancient Greek and with whom I have studied Greek. Here is his reply:
ἀκάπνωτος, free from vapour (the Latinized version of that word is akapnotos)
from: καπνός, smoke (the initial alpha above means "none")
from: καπνόω, reduce to smoke
the καπνιαω & καπνιος forms (with the extra iota) seem to be used in Galen, but there also καπνειος used by older authors
καπνιαω: https://logeion.uchicago.edu/%CE%BA%CE%AC%CF%80%CE%BD%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%82
καπνειος: https://logeion.uchicago.edu/%CE%BA%CE%AC%CF%80%CE%BD%CE%B5%CE%B9%CE%BF%CF%82"
(For clarification, the Latin adaptation of the word ἀκάπνωτος is akapnotos)
