Remember, tetracyclines hit the ribosome, so they interrupt protein synthesis. That will inhibit any infecting organism that relies on protein synthesis in any capacity (read: all of them), and will allow the granulocytes/hemocytes (and dare I say fat bodies?) to do their job while the replication of the microorganism is impeded.
