Hi Nadia,
It's best to contact a conservator who can deal with this who has
experience in the treatment of potentially loaded weapons. I strongly
advise not attempting to deal with this yourself, especially the 'cleaning'
part which can cause significant damage to the object. Then object should
be kept as as dry as possible to avoid further corrosion and damage. There
are definitely safety hazards associated with the object.
