Back when I used to keep less gentle bees, I had a few hives next to a
walkway to a garden.
Along the walkway I drove in a steel T post with a piece of 1/4" pipe wired
vertically to the top for a swivel.
I made an 18" arm of 1/4" steel rod with a 90 degree bend at each end
(both) pointing downward.
One end of the arm went into the pipe. From the other I hung a coathanger
at shoulder height, with a dark smelly shirt on the coathanger.
The wind would make the shirt move about all day at body height,
accustoming the bees to the movement of a human.
It was simple and effective. No bees needed to die -- I just allowed them
to get used to such a thing moving about.
