I understand the cool down period with the wand, I used a cup of water to cool it before reload. I don't see how the crystals will be more efficiently distributed in a closed hive unless you think that outgoing flight will take crystals out and lost. Seems a stretch. Has anyone actually measured the difference with and without the wait? A ten minute wait would be a big change in my methods.
