Hello archaeologists, anthropologists, historians, and all!
The Association for Washington Archaeology (AWA) would like to let you all
know about its Microgrant Program, which offers up to US $200 in
no-questions-asked financial support to students, emerging professionals,
and Tribal heritage-related employees in the Pacific Northwest. The goal of
the microgrants program is to provide money to cover any cash-flow problems
individuals may experience, including but not limited to equipment,
tuition, fees, transportation, childcare, healthcare, or any general
assistance. This program is supported through a combination of AWA funds
and donations from the public.
See below for more information on how to apply!
If you are interested in supporting students, emerging professionals, and
Tribal heritage-related employees in the PNW, consider donating! Even a
small amount helps. You can find more information on how to donate below.
*Who can apply?*
Students or emerging professionals living or working in the PNW US who are:
- Enrolled archaeology/anthropology/museology/other heritage students
(university, community college, tribal college, etc.) seeking financial
assistance or support while in school (e.g. tuition, books, fees, rent,
gas, child care, etc.);
- Seeking financial assistance for archaeological field schools,
workshops, and other professional development opportunities (fees, tuition,
child care costs, gas, rent, etc.), and/or;
- Emerging professionals (such as archaeological technicians) and/or
Tribal heritage-related employees in need of cash for personal field gear
(i.e. trowels, boots, pants, safety gear, Munsell books, measuring tapes,
etc.), for addressing cash flow problems (e.g. a period of low employment,
illness, rent or utilities, food, childcare issues, etc.), or for other
general financial assistance.
Applicants DO NOT have to be members of the AWA to apply, though you are
encouraged to join when you are able. Note that there are also free
memberships available! Applicants DO have to be based in the US. We are
unable to send money internationally at this time.
*How does it work?*
Grants are handed out once per month, with priority currently going to
applicants from excluded, marginalized, or working class/low-income
communities or identities, or from those that have experienced colonialism
or imperialism. That being said, all individuals are welcome to apply, and
the AWA will make efforts to fund all applicants in time.
Grants are primarily awarded through PayPal. However, if you absolutely
cannot do PayPal, just let us know (via the email address or form below)
and we'll see what we can do.
