I have been able to see outlines of warn off over glaze on ceramics and glass with a UV light. I had a UV light that could shine either short or long UV. I can't remember which wave length worked best.

Hi Susan
I had some luck in enhancing faded markings on ceramic and other surfaces with a phone app aimed mainly at looking at degraded rock art pigments in poor light conditions - BinaryEarth - Rock Art Enhancer [1] - for Android. IDStretch, which I've not tried, is a similar app for IPhones. This was to improve legibility, not to render the original design as say a complete image. In my case, because the surfaces were curved and never evenly lit, it was a process of trying to get the best resolution of a small part of one segment before moving on to the next bit of the image and compiling it in my head. It works by altering spectrum characteristics, so not sure you'd be able to recover a 'true' colour.
Because its an app it is easy to play with, and more experienced users may have a whole bag of tricks to get better results from it.
cheers

Subject:fugitive exposure
Hi All,
I have Chinese and English enameled wares that have surface designs that have gone away.
Does anyone know how to make the paints reappear?
I have the ghosts/fugitives/shadows but was wondering if there's anything that would expose the former colors.
Thanks as always,
S. Walter
