For historical context.

Matching sets are a later 19th C. trend. George Miller discuss it in several of his articles. They are advertised in Late 19th C. mail order catalogs such as Sears, Montgomery Wards, Bloomingdales etc.

We have about 10 vessels from a set at our site which appears to be a house clearing deposit c. 1890-1910 in SE PA.

Subject: Matched Tableware Resources

My students are working on a project with a lot of matching dish sets and we're struggling to find other articles/resources that discuss such assemblages. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

Emily Dale
