*I may know less but it makes me feel so much smarter.*
The recent review of the literature on the Africanized hybrids has piqued
my curiosity. I think we're missing out on a great opportunity to learn
more about how to breed varroa resistant honey bees by not doing more
research on the Africanized hybrids.
It'd be a lot of fun to capture the Africanized feral swarms and try to
breed a more gentile lineage. They're like the swiss army knife of *A.
mellifera *and have such a wide diversity of life history traits which are
favorable for surviving the common pathogens which plague european honey
bees.
They may not be safe for neighborhoods, but the Africanized hybrids would
still pollinate almonds adequately.
