It is usually the wives of beekeepers that end up with adverse reaction to stings.
The theory that has been advanced for this is that they are subject to low doses of venom when washing clothes of their husbands or children that have the stings still in the clothing. At some stage later in life they suddenly have an adverse reaction to a sting they may get. I know of several cases of this here in Australia.
