> He was talking about the phenomena formerly known as "CCD"

The use of the hot button CCD is a pretty clear indicator of either being uninformed or else invoking emotional affect. Here are several very recent examples of this:

Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is an *environmental threat on a global scale* due to the unreplaceable role of bees in crop pollination … Detecting varroosis using a gas sensor system as a way to face the environmental threat

Apis mellifera, the most common species of honeybee, has been *suffering the epidemic* of colony collapse disorder (CCD) … Competition and Identification of Anaerobic Organisms Isolated from Apis mellifera Gut Microbiota

A combination of multiple factors could explain the *mass extinction of bees* or CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) phenomena observed worldwide … Application of fuzzy logic for honey bee colony state detection based on temperature data

We analyze *emotionalization in media reporting* on environmental issues by using the case of the colony collapse disorder (CCD). —  Emotionalization in the Media Coverage of Honey Bee Colony Losses

This last one points out the following:

> Emotionalization occurs far more often by using rhetorical devices than by explicitly mentioning positive or negative emotions. Interestingly, the incorporation of emotional elements and scientific expertise in the news items do not exclude one another. Hence, there seems to be no strict dichotomy between rational/objective and emotional reporting.

For many of us, the injection of emotionally charged rhetoric into scientific research has the opposite effect from what was intended. Instead of arousing our attention, the response tends to be "nothing to see here, move on."
