I have found this to be a very line/strain dependent. Some will, while
others won't; in some cases sealing the upper openings shut during the
summer. Generalizing, Italian types are more likely to make use of
them, while Carniolian varieties won't.<
I'd agree, and I prefer Italians for fast brooding, since our summer's are short and nectar flows come on quick.
