I'm teaching about Varroa mites at a couple of beginner bee schools this
winter. I push the point that effective management must begin with
monitoring. I am looking for tips that make monitoring (either alcohol wash
or sugar shake) easier. For example, I have a friend who takes samples from
his hives but doesn't process them in the bee yard - he puts them in Ziplock
baggies, takes them home and rinses them at his leisure in his
air-conditioned kitchen while listening to his favorite radio station. From
previous posts, I know Randy has an efficient Wash Station set-up that works
well for his operation. Does anybody have other great ideas that save time
and/or make monitoring easier, especially for hobbyists?
