Deb C. This is our best practice here in Newfoundland and Labrador. A few brush strokes of beeswax on each side of the foundation and move on to the next frame. However, we oppose importation of beeswax from out of province for fear we may acquire AFB spores. We currently appear to be free of AFB (at least clinical manifestations). Also, during hive inspections, many of us small scale producers, pinch burr/bridge comb and stick this onto bare spots on the undrawn foundation to speed up the comb construction.

FWIW, I have found you don’t need to cover all of all of the plastic foundation with the melted beeswax, just brush a few strokes on, flip, next frame. The bees draw it out fine.
