While agreeing with most of this discussion, I strongly disagree with teaching new beekeepers to prophylactically treat for mites; I understand the why’s of it, but think it undermines good beekeeping skills that these beginners are needing. Nothing is better than mite inspections and getting into those hives and observing and listening to your bee’s. You don’t want to be a lazy beekeeper. By doing this they will learn the importance of having a sustainable apiary.
