"I do not like to have queens released while I am in the hives because of the agitation state the bees are in. Even if I want her released quick I leave enough candy to have her release occur after the hive is closed up, and the bees have had time to calm down."
Has anyone ever heard of or tried the method of allowing the queen to walk in the front entrance rather than released inside the hive? The idea being that this is the way a normal new queen returns from her mating flight.
