I work in Fairfax County, Virginia. In 2003, we got the 1937 and 1954
historic aerial photographs from the National Archives, digitized them,
orthorectified them, and put them into GIS. The County has a series of
more modern aerial photographs, as well. You may find that the county or
state that you are working in may have them or you could reach out to
National Archives to see if they have aerial photographs available for your
area.

We use the historic aerial photographs all the time to see changes that
have occurred as a result of urbanization and suburbanization. We also have
been able to identify sites in areas that were previously agricultural.
