just a delusion
I ran a trial for Beeologics in which we cultured a strain of IAPV from a
collapsing bee operation, and then inoculated colonies infected with the
newly-invaded *Nosema ceranae* with the virus. We treated half the hives
with dsRNA to suppress the virus.
The results: what certainly appeared to be CCD, documented step by step.
Dr. Eric Mussen as Monitor. He and I observed every step of CCD occurring,
which then helped me to create a model for CCD collapse (
http://scientificbeekeeping.com/sick-bees-part-2-a-model-of-colony-collapse/
).
That model was subsequently adopted by the Beltsville Lab as their working
model for what was occurring.
I've since observed and photographed CCD sudden colony collapse from *N.
ceranae* a number of times, and often show the photos in my presentations.
After a few years, though, as the bees apparently adapted to the new strain
of nosema (and possibly any associated viruses) I pretty much stopped
seeing it occur in my colonies. We don't even worry about *N. ceranae* any
more.
