Nick, just so you know there are two sides to this story Japanese knotweed
is a huge problem in western North Carolina. We call it an exotic invasive
and it grows anywhere there is surplus moisture, in particular on stream
banks. It chokes out all native vegetation and has little wilidlife
benefit. It does not produce nectar in western NC. I do stream repair and
restoration in my day job and knotweed is a huge problem as it is very
difficult to eradicate.
Not trying to pick a fight but want you to know knotweed is a problem in
some settings,
