Yeah, of course. But I wouldn't introduce a new queen into a colony just because they were roaring nor give a mite treatment just because they were noisy. The quote said beekeepers "ascertain the state of their honey bee colonies" from sounds. A sound may be a tip-off but it takes actual inspection, testing, and/or followup to "ascertain" anything. Unless they define "certain" in some other way than I do.
