I was told by a botanist over 40 years ago that dandelion pollen isn't used to 'pollinate' the plants as they self fertilise by 'cell migration' so the flowers from their wind blown seeds are clones of the parent. This is why, in an area, all the dandelions will have identical leaf patterns. If you look at dandelion pollen under a microscope you'll see that is has a random pattern unlike nearly every other plant pollen which is quite geometrical.
I, too, scatter seeds on verges etc and sometimes make 'seed bombs' by rolling them in wet clay that I can then distribute with a catapult.
