> Meanwhile, we had these people write a paper on how to poison all
the colonies in a geographic region.
"These people," whom I know personally, are dedicated bee lovers who have
devoted their lives to helping bees and beekeepers.
In regions in which *Apis mellifera* is not native, such poisoning could
prevent the establishment of a parasite such as varroa, an invasive species
such as *Apis cerana *or *Apis florea*, or another parasite or pathogen.
The loss of a few colonies would be a small cost to pay in order to protect
the rest of the colonies on a landmass.
I suggested exactly this when varroa was introduced to the island of Oahu,
and suggest it should varroa be found at a port in Australia.
