Not Langstroth. His hives were single story brood nests with comb honey boxes or jars over the crown board. Dadant introduced a bigger brood box, but it was Root that promoted deep supers for honey. I don't care for top bar hives myself but I admire those Ukrainian chest hives with the  big frames. My solution for heavy lifting is to get a helper or two.
