I heard this sentiment so many times ... but find it surprising when you consider the success achieved with many other parasites and pathogens with coordinated treatment regimes.
I even had a funding application turned down (for a coordinated treatment study) by a beekeeping charity with words like "We love the science and the justification. This is an important and worthwhile study. However, we're not going to fund you as you'll never get the beekeepers to take part."
Pretty defeatist ... or realistic, depending upon your outlook.
We're doing the study anyway - every beekeeper on a 500km^2 island is taking part :) We're two full seasons in and making progress.
