*Pete, do you have a source for your statement that 'honey production is
drastically reduced'.  There are certainly a lot of commercial beekeepers
who would strongly disagree with your statement.*

I think you misunderstood. What Tom is describing is keeping a colony in a one or 1 1/2 story unit, year round. No supers are added so no surplus honey is produced.
