In the Sierra Nevada after mid July, our bees bring in a dark honeydew from
a scale insect that parasitizes California Incense Cedar (the wood used to
make pencils). To our surprise, during our drought, the honeydew flows
actually increased greatly over what we were used to. I have no idea why.
It could have been due to the drought adversely affecting the scale
insect's natural predators, but just guessing.
