I was wondering what scientific evidence we have to support the claim that the huge increase in autumn mite numbers are due to other hives (Mite Bombs) crashing from mites, drifting, or robbing. I have experienced the dramatic jump in mites measured in my own hives, so I know it happens, but have we considered the possibility that perhaps the mites are dramatically more successful at reproduction during the fall? Or some other explanation?
I ask because I remember the BIP suggesting Mite Bomb hives as a *possible* explanation of the measured increase in mites, but I want to know what experiments, data, or evidence supports this assertion.
Thanks in advance.
