Hi all
Been going through the "Honey Market News" for the 1980s-90s. Pretty depressing, since that's about when I bailed out of the bee business.
Prices in 1993 still list 5 gal pails and cans. Interesting, the prices for Northeast US give plastic pails and for the Southeast, metal cans. That tells you something (?)
NORTHEAST REGION -
55 - 60 lb. plastic $45.00-52.00
SOUTHEAST REGION
60 # cans - light $42.00
- dark $36.00
Compared to prices when I started out in 1974:
Extracted honey in wholesale lots sold for an average price of 49 cents per pound, 6 cents above 1973.
Unprocessed bulk honey in 60 pound containers averaged 49 cents per pound compared with 42 cents in 1973.
PLB
thinking, beekeeper for life.
