> Gone are the cricket song of summer evenings, the fireflies, the
butterflies in their abundance, mantas and swarms of dragon and damsel
flies, the beetles and ants in their multitudes.
On my bookshelf are the cedar cigar boxes containing the high-school insect
collections that I helped my kids with.
I was lamenting to another entomologist recently that I'd be unable to
collect many of the formerly-common species today, as I haven't seen them
in years. We are doing a disservice to our grandchildren, who won't be
able to enjoy the wide diversity of wildlife that we did.
