Back in the 70's, sulfathiazole was a treatment of choice for AFB, both as
a preventative and a 'cure'.. Sulfathiazole was and still is extremely
effective, but also very persistent in honey.
As society became more aware of the ubiquity of medications and pesticide
residues in food, a maximum acceptable level of one ppm was established
(per million, not billion) and loads of honey were dumped for exceeding
tha.
Later, the use of sulfathiazole for bees was outlawed most places.
Some people have allergies to sulfa and sulfites, etc.. Maybe your folks
were allergic to the sulfa, not honey.
