Air bubbles? They can be quite uniform in size in a sample that's been
'processed'. Try applying pressure to the coverslip or gradually changing
the ambient temperature and watch for size changes.
Yeast tend to be spiky.
In the second microphoto, there may be one or two long bacilli, rod-shaped
bacteria, but they're diverse, everywhere, and mostly beneficial or neutral.
The thing to remember about sampling dead bees outside the hive is that,
well, they're dead, and they may have been dead for a while, even before
being ushered from the hive, rotting, fermenting, freezing, thawing, and
generally decomposing. The softer parts shrink. Near corpses v. distant
corpses? Ideally, they're dumped away from the hive, but if it's cold or
precipitating, the undertakers do the bare minimum.
