In my experience, when presented with pollen sub during a natural pollen
flow, my bees lick the sugar out of the patties, and discard the rest. At
the same time, they EAGERLY consume sham patties of sugar.
Once the natural pollen flow is over, then pollen sub patties are consumed,
and stimulate jelly production and broodrearing.
I'm currently setting up a field trial of 144 hives to comparatively test
the ability of the various pollen subs on the market to build up colonies
for almond pollination during pollen dearth.
